Jamaica
- Destinations
One of the Caribbean's best known destinations, Jamaica, boasts an array of breathtaking scenery and exciting activities. Coral reefs teeming with colourful fish, white sandy beaches, majestic waterfalls and misty rainforests all combine to delight the senses of its visitors. With a population mix that includes African, Indian, Chinese, German and British people, it is a very welcoming island with infectious music and friendly hospitality. There are six main tourist regions on this third largest island of the Caribbean - Montego Bay, Negril, Mandeville, Kingston, Port Antonio and Ocho Rios. Montego Bay is considered the place to be for lovers of all water sports from scuba diving, sailing, parasailing, jet skiing, to sport fishing and glass-bottom boat rides. Backpackers and those interested in a low-key atmosphere favour Negril. Here many small resorts are perched in the rocky cliffs of the limestone bluffs. Shoppers looking for local crafts and bargains while in Jamaica can visit its many duty-free shops, souvenir arcades and craft stands. The natural beauty of the island is appreciated by all, including bird watchers and plant lovers. Home to more than 200 native bird species and a vast array of flowering plants, Jamaica is rich with variety and beauty. Annual average temperature is a wonderful 28°C.
